Tehran Times Culture Desk

TEHRAN -- Books by Iranian scholar Ali Shariati were among the bestselling books at the Beirut Arab and International Book Fair 2010.

The 54th edition of the book fair, which ran from December 3 to 16, added the books on its best selling list, the public relations office of the fair reported on Saturday.

Based on the report, in the religious books section, the book “Right Path” by Abdullah Al-Haririyy stood first and the books by Shariati took the second position among the bestsellers.

The Nahj-ul-Balagha interpreted by Sheikh Muhammad Abduh and “Stories in Shadow of Quran” by Hanan Al Shaar shared the third place.

Nahj-ul-Balagha (Peak of Eloquence) was first compiled by Sharif Radi known in Persian as Seyyed Razi, who divided the work into three sections containing the speeches, letters, and short sayings of Imam Ali (AS).

Ali Shariati (1933–1977) who earned a Ph.D. in the history of Islam and sociology at the University of Paris is regarded as one of the most influential ideological leaders of pre-revolutionary Iran.

The impact and popularity of his thought continues to be felt throughout Iranian society many years later. “Where Shall We Begin?”, “Fatima Is Fatima”, “And Once Again Abu-Dhar” are among his noteworthy credits.
