TEHRAN -- Iranian singer Reza Saqqaii died in Tehran on Sunday.

The singer from the Lorestan region, who was famous for his hit song about the 1980-1988 Iran-Iraq war entitled “Mom, Mom, It’s Time to Fight”, had been suffering from respiratory disease.

He was 71 years old.

The song was very popular. It was hummed by Iranian people during the war and was often usually heard on national TV channels and radio programs.

Saqqaii was wounded during the war in Azna, a town in Lorestan Province and was suffering its side effects for the past several years. He was hospitalized 10 days ago in Tehran’s Sasan Hospital because of a stroke.

Born in 1939 in Khorramabad, he collaborated with several musicians including Ali-Akbar Shekarchi, Mojtaba Mirzadeh, and Faraj Alipur.

His first song “Those Smashing Looks of Yours” was performed in the Lori dialect.

His funeral ceremony will begin at Tehran’s Vahdat Hall on Thursday and he will be laid to rest in his hometown of Khorramabad, the Persian service of ISNA reported.
